Anne Porter Knight Frank, like certain other high profile Cape real estate agencies, has taken advantage of the downturn in the property sector to expand its operation.
Lanice Steward, Anne Porter Knight Frank’s Managing Director, announced this week that Matt Mercer Real Estate has joined Anne Porter Knight Frank and to operate under their name in Hout Bay where their agency employs six agents and has been operating since 2000.
“Matt Mercer’s family have been in property throughout Southern Africa since 1946,” said Steward, “and it would be no exaggeration to say that he literally grew up in the business. His current operation is one of the most respected and efficient in Cape Town. It always has been amongst the top performing agencies in Hout Bay and is set for further growth in 2010.”
Anne Porter Properties has been one of the most successful real estate agencies in Cape Town over the last 26 years. Knight Frank are one of the oldest and most prestigious property companies in the United Kingdom with an extensive worldwide network
Mercer said that from the outset he made a point of being closely involved in Hout Bay community affairs. He was an initiator of the area’s Neighbourhood Watch scheme, past president of the Rotary Club of Hout Bay, which pioneered upliftment schemes in both Hangberg and Imizamo Yethu, he is on the Kronendal Primary school's governing body and a member of community employment initiative WorkNow.
He has also been interviewed by CNN, BBC, Sky News and Carte Blanche on matters concerning Hout Bay.
“One of the strengths of the Matt Mercer business,” said Steward, “is that they are exceptionally strong on Internet marketing and in this respect we can, I believe, learn something. In some months over 70% of their sales leads come from foreign buyers whom they attract via the Internet.”
Steward said that their affiliation with Knight Frank of the UK was a definite attraction to Mercer and she believes that together they can make excellent use of this.
“The two organisations complement each other because Hout Bay/ Llandudno and the Southern Suburbs sellers and buyers, especially those from Constantia and Bishopscourt, tend to be similar and to move back and forth from one area to the other as they upgrade or downgrade.
“We see Hout Bay and Llandudno as areas where, due to there being only limited potential for new projects, the existing homes cannot but increase steadily in value,” said Steward.
